The chair of Algonquin College’s board of governors says president Robert Gillett has earned every cent of the $500,000 golden handshake he’s set to receive when he retires next year.
Gillett is to be paid for a sabbatical equal to one year of his full salary and benefits upon his retirement in December 2012, as well as a retirement allowance equal to one year’s salary, in addition to his six-figure pension.
The details of the exit package were released Tuesday by OPSEU local 415, which represents more than 700 professors, instructors, librarians and counsellors on campus. It hired local researcher Ken Rubin to file Freedom of Information requests to obtain the copies of Gillett’s contract…
